The Sixties! - That is an era that has fascinated me for years. I was too young to have lived the hippy life in the sixties (I was 14 in 1970).When I was 18 and started doing some traveling (England and France) the last echoes were still around in terms of lifestyle and philosophy, but ,as someone once remarked , by that time the dream had splintered into dreamers. The whole scene appealed to me - hitting the road, festivals, exploring higher consciousness, communes, far-out music, etc etc. This wild hippy era is still one of my fascinations.
The whole counter-culture then seems to me (looking back on it since I was still at school then and not a part of it) a spacier, trippier, further out time than what has happened since. Hippies, music festivals, dropping out, travelling overland to Marrakech and Katmandu, hitting the road and just going somewhere without a care where you ended up - those were the days( or at least it seems like it!).
Of course there was a lot of serious stuff happening then too - the war in Vietnam, civil rights marches, political protest generally. Here's hoping for a time when everyone will do their own thing and leave everyone else in peace and freedom.
Below are some links for anyone who, like me, is fascinated by many aspects of that whole scene back then.It will take a long time to work through all these pages and I hope any visitor will enjoy these pages as I much as I will. (There are also quite a few links to modern sites with the same philosophy/outlook.)
