Biography
Jonathan Fowler is the Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at West Chester University of Pennsylvania (WCUPA). He holds degrees from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), Temple University and Rutgers University. During his education Jonathan performed with the CCM Wind Symphony, the Rutgers Wind Ensemble and the Rutgers Symphony Orchestra. Recordings of these ensembles can be heard on the Naxos, Bridge and Mark Custom record labels. His principal teachers include Timothy Northcut, Jay Krush and Scott Mendoker. In 2015 he and WCUPA Professor of Horn Elizabeth Pfaffle released an album, Wilder- ness , comprised of works for horn by American Composer Alec Wilder. As a faculty member at WCUPA, Dr. Fowler teaches applied tuba and euphonium lessons, First Year Experience, and coaches small ensembles in addition to running the WCUPA Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble. Aside from performing his own faculty recitals, Dr. Fowler has appeared as a soloist with the WCUPA Wind Symphony and the WCUPA Brass Ensemble. In the fall 2022 semester, Jonathan will perform Barbara York’s Concerto for Tuba with the WCUPA Wind Ensemble. Jonathan also performs extensively with orchestras and chamber ensembles. Since 2019, he has performed regularly with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra (OH) and the Princeton Symphony Orchestra (NJ). Previous engagements have included performances with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Orchestra of St. Luke's, New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Harrisburg Symphony, Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, Reading Symphony, Orchestra of St. Cecilia's, Opera Theatre of New Jersey and Orchestra Teatro Grattacielo. He has performed with notable acts such as Sarah McLaughlin, Il Volo, Celtic Woman, Jefferson Starship, Sutton Foster, Sierra Boggess, Storm Large, and Michael Feinstein. Dr. Fowler has been a faculty member at the inaugural 2019 Tuba and Euphonium workshop and 2018 Low Brass workshop (Taller de Trombones) in Panama City, Panama. Previously he has appeared at the International Baroque Festival in Santa Ana, Costa Rica, and the Aruba Music Festival. Dr. Fowler has also been a regular contributor to the International Tuba and Euphonium Association journal writing reviews for newly composed solos and chamber works. Videos and Audio
