March Professional Development Opportunities
Research shows that, contrary to superstitions, luck is not due to random chance or magical abilities. In fact, lucky people think and behave differently than others. As a result, good things happen to them. Lucky people generate good fortune by maintaining a positive mindset and persevering in face of setbacks; creating and noticing opportunities as they arise; and adopting a growth mindset and truly believing that good things will come with hard work and practice.
Want to cultivate more luck in your life? Start by checking out our March professional development opportunities! Take advantage of every chance you get to learn new skills and develop new interests.

Spotlight of the Month - Office of Service Learning & Volunteer Programs

The Martin Luther King Day Service Project has been an annual tradition for the Office of Service Learning and Volunteer Programs at West Chester University for many years now. The service project, led this year by assistant director Kate Colyer, brought over 400 faculty, staff, student, and community volunteers together to make no-sew blankets for children and patients. The 106 blankets made were donated to Nemours A.I. DuPont Children’s Hospital, patients at the Abramson Cancer Center at Chester County Hospital, and “Fleece for Keeps” for children in foster care. The organizations receiving the blankets had the opportunity to speak at the event and share the positive impacts of the volunteers' efforts. The service project embodies Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy of bringing people together for a common goal. As an alum of West Chester University, Kate Colyer is especially proud of the program put together by the office. She explained how touching it was to bring community members together through this event. The Office of Service Learning and Volunteer Programs plans to continue the tradition of hosting this service program in honor of Dr King's legacy.
The Office of Service Learning and Volunteer Programs is in charge of a number of other programs and services across campus, including Alternative Spring Break, International Service Learning, and America Reads Youth.. Students, faculty, staff, and community members are welcome and encouraged to participate in these volunteer service opportunities. For more information and to learn how your team or department can get involved, visit the OSLVP's website.
