Spotlight of the Month - WCU Community Mental Health Services

WCU Community Mental Health Services held its Grand Opening ceremony on March 9, 2018. The event was well attended by student, faculty and staff of WCU as well as members of the community, including Mayor Dianne Herrin and Steve Grabicki, Chief of Staff for Senator Andy Dinniman.

Although the Grand Opening was just held in March, WCU Community Mental Health Services (CMHS) has been open since August. CMHS is affiliated with the West Chester University Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D) Program. It is the primary training site for graduate students in the Psy.D Program and a clinical research site for faculty in the Psychology Program. As a non-profit training and research facility, CMHS is able to provide low-cost, high quality psychotherapy and testing. They provide a wide range of psychological services as well as specialization in trauma-related disorders and child & adolescent mental health. Services are provided by graduate students earning a doctorate in Psychology, who are closely supervised by experienced, licensed Psychologists. They serve children, adolescents, adults, couples and families.

CMHS is proud to advance community engagement via services provided to the community. Since opening in August, CMHS has served 82 clients with psychotherapy and/or assessment. Clients seen have ranged in age from 7 to 61 years of age. Graduate students in the program have provided 4 presentations to businesses and mental health providers in the West Chester community, and two graduate students are currently running a group at a local high school.
