MSW PROGRAM plans

West Chester University offers various program options in West Chester and Philadelphia. Students can pursue their degree full-time or part-time, with options to complete the degree in two, three, or four years

Students who earned a BSW degree within the last seven years from an accredited institution should apply for the advanced standing program, significantly reducing the number of required credits. Advanced standing is available on both campuses and the program can be completed in one or two years.

Regular Standing

  • Students who do not have a BSW degree qualify for regular standing plans.
    • Fall start only
    • West Chester and Philadelphia locations
    • 60-credit program
    • Optional summer and winter course offerings allow students to lighten the credit load for fall and spring semesters
    • Online options (including synchronous, asynchronous, and hybrid) available for some courses, depending upon faculty's chosen delivery methods and available seats

Two-Year Course Plan

Students on the two-year plan take fifteen credits per semester comprised of five courses, including practicum placement. 

Regular Standing Two-Year Course Plan

Three-Year Course Plan

Students on the three-year program take 9-12 credits per semester. The first year of study includes courses only. Practicum placement begins in the fall of year two.

Four-Year Course Plan

Students on the four-year plan take 6-9 credits per semester and provides flexibility in determining when the two practicum placements best fits their schedules. The first year of study includes courses only. Practicum placement may begin in year two or three, depending on the student’s needs.

Advanced Standing

  • Students who have a BSW degree within the last seven years qualify for advanced standing.
    • Summer start only (classes begin at the end of May)
    • West Chester and Philadelphia locations
    • 36-credit program
    • One and two-year options
