Curriculum Vitae

Dr. David Bowman is an educator, scholar, and leader with more than twenty years of experience in music education, curriculum innovation, and organizational administration. He teaches high school choir, modern band, guitar, and musical theater, and serves as K–12 curriculum leader for the Conewago Valley School District in New Oxford, Pennsylvania. In this role, he leads program development, faculty collaboration, and strategic planning across district music programs, promoting a culture of creativity and access for a diverse student population.

In higher education, Dr. Bowman teaches Modern Music Making at West Chester University, focusing on modern band pedagogy and learner-centered teaching practices for music educators. He previously served as an instructor at Penn State Mont Alto and an adjunct professor at Gettysburg College. His research examines facilitative teaching and informal music learning practices across the music curriculum, exploring how teachers create collaborative and inclusive music-making environments.

A frequent clinician and presenter, Dr. Bowman has led sessions for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association at district and state conferences and works regularly with pre-service and in-service music educators. His contributions to education have been recognized with multiple awards for teaching excellence and innovation, including the WGAL 8 Teacher Impact Award, the Conewago Valley School District Pioneer in Educational Excellence Award, and the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year.

He holds a Doctor of Education from the University of South Carolina, a Master of Music Education from the University of Kansas, a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the Honors College at West Chester University, and a Graduate Certificate in Modern Band from Lebanon Valley College.
