October Event: People's Light and Theater Co., Malvern, PA!
The Porch on Windy Hill is showing until October 20th! During our club meeting this Thursday 9/26 we'll pick a date to attend the show. Transportation will be figured out depending on how many of us can go and ticket prices will be heavily discounted. People's Light is closed on Mondays. Shows take place at 7:00pm Tuesday - Saturday and at 2:00pm on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Run time is about 2 hours with a 15-minute intermission. People's Light is a fantastic theater and I highly encourage attending!
Show description: Mira, a biracial Korean American violinist, and her boyfriend Beckett reconnect with her estranged grandfather and delve into the joys and pains of the past. In the mountains of North Carolina, they discover the ability to bridge divides and heal wounds through the power of music. Set against a backdrop of authentic “old-time” and bluegrass melodies, this heartwarming tale combines endearing characters and traditional instruments in a harmonious exploration of heritage and human connection.
November Event: Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, PA!
The Phildelphia Museum of Art is a big place with a lot to see! Many of the current exhibitions will still be on display in November. Addditionally, a new exhibit opens on November 9th featuring 28 Black and African diasporic contemporary artists who use figurative painting, drawing and sculpture to illuminate and celebrate the nuance and richness of Black contemporary life. The museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Friday the museum is open late until 8:45pm, typically the museum closes at 5:00pm. As a group, we will decide what day of the week works best and figure out transportation based on how many of us are able to come!
Community Service:
I have reached out to some local organizations to secure a monthly community service oppourtunity for us. Our service commitment would be once a month in Oct, Nov, Jan, Feb, Mar, and Apr with timing depending on organization need. If you have suggestions or input during this decision making process, please let us know! Stay tuned for more updates soon.
