The WCU Reading Center is a resource to the university and surrounding West Chester communities. The center serves learners from kindergarten to high school adolescents whose families request literacy (e.g., reading, writing, spelling, comprehension) support. Faculty members from the Literacy Department provide teacher education to pre-service and in-service teachers focusing on how to assess and provide differentiated instruction to readers and writers who experience literacy challenges. Because strong literacy practices involve both school and home participation, the Reading Center also works to develop a partnership with home representatives (e.g., families, caregivers) regarding literacy learning.
