About the Dowdy Multicultural Center:
The Dowdy Multicultural Center (DMC) at West Chester University, dedicated on October 21, 2016, in honor of Lawrence A. Dowdy, stands as a beacon of inclusion and cultural celebration on campus. Named to recognize Dowdy's years of dedicated service, the DMC provides programming aimed at equipping student leaders with the skills necessary to embody servant leadership while championing the principles of diversity, inclusion, and civility. Located on the ground floor of Sykes Student Union, Room 003, the DMC is managed by a team of passionate professionals who are dedicated to fostering a welcoming space where students can engage in meaningful dialogue, develop cultural competence, and take part in experiences that inspire personal and collective growth. The center is known for their cultural and intercultural celebrations , heritage awareness events, and student-centered dialogues that advocate for social justice. This is a hub is a place where all students and members of the University community can engage meaningfully to broaden their understanding and appreciation of diversity. Whether through educational programs, cultural events, or advocacy initiatives, the Dowdy Multicultural Center actively contributes to building a more inclusive campus, encouraging dialogue, and promoting awareness of the rich diversity that defines our community.

Purpose:
The purpose of the Dowdy Multicultural Center (DMC) is to promote the success of Students of Color (SOC) at West Chester University by serving as a home base and central hub for programs, services, and referrals that support their academic and personal development. The DMC also serves as a gathering place for all students and members of the University community, fostering an environment that enhances awareness and appreciation of diversity and inclusion. As a resource and programming center, the DMC provides a welcoming space for prospective and first-year SOC to connect and find support as they begin their collegiate journey. Additionally, the Center strengthens alumni engagement by partnering with former SOC and alumni organizations to build a lasting connection between current students and alumni.
