Remember when you were eleven years old and had a bike, one that made you dream about a world bigger than the one in which you lived? This is that memory. Except it is now. What happens when we don’t know where we’re going? What happens when all we can think of is the bike? Embark on an unforgettable journey with RED BIKE by Caridad Svich, an examination of childhood dreams and the complexities of adulthood.

Audition Dates: Monday November 25 from 5-9pm, in Large Acting Studio

Callbacks: Tuesday, November 26 from 5-9pm, in the J.P. Adler Studio Theatre

Rehearsals begin January 21, 2025

Show Dates: February 27 and 29, 2025  | March 1 and 2, 2025

Please prepare:

  • Actors are asked to prepare a 1-minute, contemporary monologue.

Important Information:

  • As requested by playwright Caridad Svitch, performers may be of any gender identity and any age. Casting is to be inclusive and reflective of the world we live in, so performers of all identities are encouraged to audition.
  • All performance and leadership production positions are conditionally dependent upon the student maintaining good academic standing with the University and having an overall GPA of 2.5 or better, inclusive. Directors will be notified if students have
    ‘nonpassing’ grades in individual classes and the student will be strongly encouraged to meet with their academic advisor and the director.
  • All students involved in WCU Department of Theatre and Dance productions are eligible for THA 200 credit. If cast or assigned a production position, and interested in academic credit, please contact our production manager, Dr. Christen Mandracchia at CMandracchia@wcupa.edu

RENT by Jonathan Larson is a modern classic that continues to captivate audiences with its raw energy and poignant storytelling. Set in New York City's East Village, this Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning rock opera follows a group of struggling artists and friends as they experience loneliness, loss, and love all while coping with survival and striving for connection. RENT speaks to the resilience of the human spirit.

Audition Dates: Plan to attend either a Wednesday OR Thursday evening audition

Please Prepare:

  • Auditioner should prepare a 16-32 bar cut of a pop/rock song or a pop/rock musical theatre song that shows strong character/acting choices and vocal range (16 bars of a ballad, 32 bars of an up-tempo). Bring sheet music in a 3-ring binder with cuts clearly marked. An accompanist will be provided. Do not plan to sing a capella (without musical accompaniment) or with an accompanist/karaoke track.
  • Auditioners should be prepared for movement call first. Bring dancewear or clothes in which you can freely move, no bare feet on stage. Jazz, character shoes, or sneakers are suggested. Time will be given to change clothes for vocal audition.
  • You will be asked to complete a conflict calendar for day/evening weekday and Saturday times, to be submitted with your Audition Form online.
