Biography

Dr. Patricia Swasey Washington received a B.A. in Speech-Language Pathology and Spanish from Douglass College, Rutgers University in 1987, an M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology from William Paterson University in 1990, and a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences from Temple University in 2010. A multilingual speech-language pathologist, she has extensive experience providing services to monolingual and bilingual individuals in a variety of settings (including school and healthcare). Prior to joining the faculty of the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department of West Chester University, Dr. Swasey Washington served as interim director of clinical education and clinical services as well as speech-language supervisor for the Temple University Speech-Language-Hearing Center. Dr. Swasey Washington’s research and clinical areas include bilingual speech and language development and disorders, cultural and linguistic diversity, global issues in speech-language pathology, interprofessional education and practice, and telepractice. Dr. Swasey Washington is founder and coordinator of the Bilingual Emphasis Course Sequence in CSD. She presents on her work at local, state, national, and international conferences, and has publications in peer-reviewed journals.
