2C-B-BZP
5% Aqueous HAuCl4
2C-B-BZP forms clusters of short dark needles and light crosses that grow long as branched blades. Both forms are observed when 2C-B-BZP is dissolved in water, 10% hydrochloric acid or acetic acid. The blades are bright under crossed polars whereas the needles are very faint.
IR Spectrum - 5% Aqueous HAuCl
Gold Bromide (HAuBr4)
2C-B-BZP with gold bromide reagent forms individual yellow, light crosses that float in the drop. The crosses are bright yellow under crossed polars. The crosses are not visible under crossed polars when they are oriented along the plane of the slide.
