Clubs, Organizations, and Co-Curricular Activities
The Department and the University offers a number of exciting opportunities for students to further develop their academic and professional training. A number of special programs, clubs, courses, and activities are highly recommended - especially as students build up their undergraduate experiences in preparation for graduation and develop their co-curricular portfolio. The Department also sponsors a number of specialized events - campus speakers, leadership events, special seminars on current political events. International Affairs Forum
Organized by Political Science, this group of students meets with professors in the department and across the university to discuss current global events. Topics include US foreign policy, globalization, current events, and regional and comparative politics (China, etc.). Open to all WCU students.
The Pre-Law Society (program homepage)
The Pre-Law Society welcomes all pre-law students and students with an interest in the law. The Pre-Law Advisor is Professor Sandra Tomkowicz, located in 484 BPM Center. Each year the Pre-Law Committee awards the D.T. Marrone Award, an award of $1,000 to an outstanding graduating senior who has been accepted by an ABA approved Law School. The Award is made possible by the Alumni Association in honor of D.T. Marrone, past President Judge of the Chester County Court and past Chairman of the County Board of Commissioners. The committee also awards The Thomas Brady Memorial Scholarship of $500 to a rising junior or senior. Please contact Dr. Tomkowicz for further information.
Pi Sigma Alpha
The National Honorary Society for Political Science has a chapter at West Chester. Its advisor is Dr. Sandhu, Ruby Jones Hall 101. It is open to students who have a cumulative average, both in their major and overall of at least 3.0 and have completed 15 hours of course work in political science at West Chester. College Democrats and College Republicans
Many of our students are also involved in either the College Democrats or the College Republicans, organizations which have chapters on our campus. These organizations give students the opportunity to become involved in politics at the "grass roots" level by working with candidates in the Chester County area who are running for local or state offices. Dr. Duane Milne, PA State Representative and Professor in the department, is the advisor to the College Republicans.
