School Counseling
Program Description
The Department of Counselor Education’s 60-credit School Counseling program (M.Ed.) prepares students to learn how to facilitate the roles of the school counselor as advocate, leader, and systemic change agent, and develop a comprehensive counseling program. School counseling students will be able to provide individual as well as group counseling to the diverse learners in collaboration with support teams in schools. Particular focus is paid to the application of evidence-based practices as students learn to conceptualize, diagnose, and provide interventions on multiple levels. Our CACREP-accredited program meets all educational requirements for Pennsylvania K-12 Professional School Counselor Certification, Nationally Certified Counseling (NCC), as well as for licensure in Pennsylvania as well as the majority of states throughout the country.
Careers in School Counseling
A degree in School Counseling prepares you to work in all school settings, such as public, private, charter and virtual, and some advising departments on college and university locations. With the completion of designated supervised hours and exams, you will meet the criteria for a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and thus, the ability to work in therapeutic settings.

Admissions Requirements
- Completed Graduate Application with goal statement
- Official undergraduate academic transcripts (min. GPA 3.0)
- Two academic/professional recommendations
- Applications accepted once per year
- Completed applications must be submitted by March 1st for the applicant to be considered for the Fall term.
