Professor, Ph.D., University of Albany, State University of New York

My primary areas of research interest include performance appraisal, investigating the influence of cultural values on workplace behaviors, effects of occupational stressors on health outcomes, and factors influencing participant reactions to selection tests and assessment center practices. My methodological interests cover topics such as meta-analysis, item-response theory, and structural equation modeling. In addition to teaching, I have also worked as a consultant for various organizations such as: The Professional Development Program at the Research Foundation of University at Albany on state level training development and evaluation, Leadership Research Institute on projects related to training evaluation, multi-source feedback and assessment of leadership effectiveness as well as a subject matter expert for Prometric for test content development. My areas of expertise include: employee selection and assessment, training and development and performance evaluation. I teach courses in Statistics, Industrial Psychology, Training and Development, and Organizational Psychology at West Chester University.

My primary areas of research interest include Employee engagement (or the opposite -- absenteeism, turnover, withdrawal behaviors), charismatic leadership, stress. My formal education is in the behavioral sciences, receiving my Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Purdue University in 1996. I have been teaching graduate courses at West Chester University in Pennsylvania for nearly 20 years. I am an active leadership consultant who has engaged with over 100 clients from more than 30 organizations. I specialize in positive leadership strategies, strengths-based leadership, and transformational leadership models. I am a certified executive coach, accredited by the International Coaching Federation. I am a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Society for Industrial/Organizational Psychology (SIOP).

Teaching Philosophy: My teaching philosophy consists of three main objectives. First, I try to foster a collaborative classroom because I believe that collaboration is critical to success in everyday life situations. Second, I aim to foster student growth and development through the incorporation of projects and activities that promote critical thinking, analysis, and application of class content. Third, I aim to create a classroom environment that encourages student and instructor accountability and dedication.

Assistant Professor of Psychology

One of my research interests is the Transactive Memory System (TMS), a system whereby a team of specialized individuals work together interdependently to achieve a common goal that could not be achieved by any of the team members on their own. This construct has great impact potential for both performance and team member experiences in high-risk settings (e.g. medical, infrastructure, military), yet the majority of the literature is focused on correlates of the construct, leaving us with little understanding of how to foster its development or conduct interventions. One of my research goals is to learn more about the development of TMS along with interventions to improve its quality.

Another one of my research interests is how to better study dynamic and emergent team constructs using computational modeling. Team constructs have primarily been studied as cognitive outcome states, but this neglects the phenomenon of emergence as well as the role of social interactions over time. My research goals include gaining insight into the informal learning processes through which many team constructs emerge. Computational modeling is a versatile method through which we can begin to study these processes.
